\u201cNew Athens: A Satire on Greater Krak\u00f3w\u201d is a 1913 work by Adolf Nowaczy\u0144ski, described as his last passionate lampoon of his hometown. The list of individuals mentioned includes, among others, \u201cHis Excellency the Minister from Vienna,\u201d City Vice President Jakub Stradomski III, the presidents of \u201cResursa,\u201d \u201cLira,\u201d and \u201cStrzelnica,\u201d as well as Representative Warcholik, president of the Club of Concentrated Illiterates. The world premiere took place on February 20, 1913, at the Polish Theater in Warsaw, directed by J\u00f3zef Sosnowski. <\/p>\n
Adolf Nowaczy\u0144ski was born on January 9, 1876, in Podg\u00f3rze near Krak\u00f3w, and died on July 3, 1944, in Warsaw. He studied at Jagiellonian University, participated in the life of Krak\u00f3w\u2019s bohemian circles, and collaborated with the Zielony Balonik cabaret. Among other works, he published a volume of satires titled *Ma\u0142pie zwierciad\u0142o* (1902). He was one of the architects of Krak\u00f3w\u2019s negative image in literature: his attacks were aimed at the provincialism and narrow-mindedness of the Krak\u00f3w bourgeoisie. <\/p>\n
This copy underwent conservation treatment at the Antykwariat Polski workshop. The book block was mechanically cleaned, and the sections were re-sewn by hand, restoring the volume\u2019s structural stability. <\/p>\n
