“Beauty and Body Culture” is a prewar beauty and hygiene guide published in Warsaw in 1938 by W\u0142adys\u0142aw B\u0105k Publishing House. It consists of two parts: \u201cCosmetics,\u201d written by Zofia Wasilewska, credited on the title page as \u201cMs. Zoja,\u201d and \u201cHygiene,\u201d by Dr. Stanis\u0142aw Bendarzewski. In the preface \u201cFrom the Publisher,\u201d W\u0142adys\u0142aw B\u0105k writes that he entrusted the writing of the book to \u201cMs. Zofia Wasilewska, an outstanding specialist in the field of cosmetics, and Dr. Stanis\u0142aw Bendarzewski, an experienced physician specializing in hygiene.\u201d <\/p>\n
The guide covers skin, dental, and hair care, bathing, exercise, staying in shape, and diet. It is richly illustrated with black-and-white photographs and drawings, including photographs of actresses (e.g., with the caption \u201cFoto Paramount\u201d). According to the colophon, the manuscript and proofreading were prepared by Prof. Alfons Kie\u0142czewski, the drawings were created by Kazimierz Libin, the plates were produced by Zak\u0142ady Graficzne B. Wierzbicki & Co., and printed by the F. Wyszy\u0144ski & Co. Printing House in Warsaw. This copy underwent conservation treatment at the Antykwariat Polski workshop. The book block was mechanically cleaned, and the sections were re-sewn by hand, restoring the volume\u2019s structural stability. <\/p>\n
