We present the first edition of a collection of hunting stories by Adam hr. Rzewuski (1805-1888), preceded by a foreword by Juljan Ejsmond. The publication was published in 1929 by Dom Ksi\u0105\u017cki Polska in Warsaw . <\/p>\n
Adam Rzewuski was an extremely controversial figure – on the one hand a descendant of Polish hetmans (his great-grandparents were Crown Hetman Waclaw Rzewuski and Lithuanian Hetman Micha\u0142 Kazimierz Radziwill) , on the other – a general of the Russian army, who took an active part in suppressing the November Uprising (1831) and the January Uprising (1863), for which he was awarded, among other things, the Golden Saber “For Bravery” and the title of count granted by Tsar Alexander II in 1856. <\/p>\n
The volume is divided into chapters: hunting stories, Profiles of former hunters, Hunting chronicle, memoirs, notes . The author, who was not only a general, but also an avid hunter and the owner of extensive estates in Ukraine (Verkhovna, Pohrebyszcze), passionately and expertly describes his hunting experiences – from big game hunting to profiles of prominent hunters of a bygone era. <\/p>\n
Adam Rzewuski was the brother of the famous novelist Henryk Rzewuski and Ewelina Ha\u0144ska – the wife of Honorius Balzac. His son, Adam Rzewuski (1847-1932), and daughter Catherine Radziwill (1858-1941) also made history, and natural son Adam from an informal union continued the family. <\/p>\n
It appears occasionally on the antiquarian market. The presented copy is clean and preserved in very good condition, which is rare for a used book. It is a must-have for a collector of hunting literature, a lover of hunting history and a bibliophile looking for first editions of Polish interwar books. <\/p>\n
