“Technique and Technology of Graphic Arts” is a fundamental textbook written by Jerzy Werner (1920-1990) – a graphic designer, stage designer and long-time lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where he taught classes in the theory of graphic techniques, photo-production techniques and painting technology. The publication was published in 1972 by Wydawnictwo Literackie in Cracow in an edition of 10,283 copies. <\/p>\n
The work is a comprehensive compendium of knowledge about graphic techniques and printing processes. In it, the author discusses all classical techniques: relief printing (woodcut, linocut), intaglio printing (copperplate, etching), flat printing (lithography, offset) and separate graphic techniques (serigraphy, monotype) . In addition, the book includes basic knowledge of photography, printing and material science – descriptions of paper and inks, as well as basic recipes of graphic materials. <\/p>\n
The publication is enriched with an extensive graphic glossary, bibliography (pp. 320-323) and signatures of selected painters, printmakers and engravers.
