Description

A book of powerful formative influence for the recent culture of Europe. A valuable first printing of a book fulfilling utilitarian tasks, a rare copy of which has managed to survive to this day in relatively very good condition.

Title page printed in color: red and black in printer’s frame, all pages in printer’s frame. Fading local discoloration of several dozen pages. Fn. I: significant loss of title page and next page repaired with old paper (with minor loss of text), smaller losses of next 3 pages and last page also paper-lined, paper-lined margins of pp. 1-18. Barely visible crayon numbering of most of the pages in the lower margin. Period pen notations on a dozen pages. Tissue paper taped tears p.425, 427 and 429. Part II: old paper taping of margins of several pages, significant loss of p.369/370 and another.

The missing cards are the last 3 cards of the secondary part. The final Index to both parts has been preserved complete. Leather binding with brass strips at corners, binding in part probably period and long repaired (secondary leather appliqués), spine glued to block, brass clasps fragmentarily preserved, binding functional.
