Henryk Rodakowski (1823-1894) – painter known primarily for his outstanding portraits, in which he combined realism with the psychological depth of the figures he depicted. His work, set in the academic tradition, is characterized by his masterful handling of light and color, which brought him recognition both in Poland and France. In his work, art historian Andrzej Ryszkiewicz analyzes Rodakowski’s life and works, revealing his role in Polish and European painting of the 19th century.
The book comes from a bibliophilic thematic sub-collection of about 500 specialized titles on Polish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries. A copy in a noble half-leather binding made in the bindery of the Polish Antiquarian.
